(vasep.com.vn) Vietnam capture production in Jan-Sep 2013 were gauged to touch 2,139 thousand MT, up 3.2 percent from the same time of last year in which marine catch was estimated to reach 2,001 thousand MT, up 3.3 percent.
High fish landings were reported in some provinces such as Kien Giang (302,434 MT), Ca Mau (117,055 MT), Ben Tre (104,401 MT), Binh Thuan (138,800 MT), Vung Tau (215,135 MT).
Due to a lot of difficulties, local provinces’ tuna catch in Jan-Sep 2013 was on the wane on par with that of the same period of 2012. Tuna catch in Phu Yen province was estimated to reach 4,200 MT, down 30.6 percent, Binh Dinh with 7,406 MT (down 4 percent), Khanh Hoa with 2,600 MT.
Due to rocketing fuel price, high costs for offshore fishing such as material, food, ice water, fishing gears, labour while sharp fall in selling price of the fish in international markets, some fishing vessels with high capacity can’t go offshore fishing.
