(vasep.com.vn) In the first 9 months of 2013, Vietnam exported its tuna to 23 European markets, representing an increase from that of the same period of 2012 (20 markets) and earning back US$106 million, up 31 percent year-on-year.
Through September 2013, Vietnam’s tuna products shipped to EU except tuna loin (HS code 0304) reported a respectable growth. Exports of frozen/live/fresh tuna and tuna loin (HS code 03) during this time obtained nearly US$54 million, showing slight growth of 0.24 percent year-on-year.
Exports of frozen/live/fresh tuna and tuna loin to EU in QIII/2013 plunged from those reported the same period of 2012. Through September 2013, Vietnam’s exports of frozen/live/fresh tuna to EU registered US$4.5 million, up 18 percent year-on-year.
Exports of processed tuna products to the block also gained impetus. Between Jan and Sep 2013, Vietnam’s canned tuna exports to the market inched up 76 percent year-on-year while other processed tuna sales scored a staggering gain of 1,565 percent.
Top 5 largest importers of Vietnam tuna in EU block reported positive growth were Germany (+61.8 percent), Italy (+4.8 percent), Spain (+17.8 percent), the Netherlands (+85.9 percent), the U.K (+2.37 percent). Portugal and Poland listed in top 10 largest European importers of Vietnam tuna were attractive markets for Vietnam tuna because exports to these two markets marked tremendous growth of 243.5 percent and 491.8 percent, respectively.
