Tuna exports to EU increased by 37.3 percent

(vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs, in the first 5 months of 2013, Vietnam’s tuna exports to EU made up 22.9 percent of the country’s total tuna export value. Tuna exports to the market during Jan-May of 2013 attained US$57.935 million, up 37.3 percent over that of the same period of 2012.

Vietnam’s tuna export value to Poland, Portugal, Malta and the Netherlands reported high growth rates of 649 percent, 382 percent, 206 percent and 103 percent, respectively.

Among EU block, Germany and Italy were the two largest importers of Vietnam tuna; Spain has hold the third place through Mar 2013 up to now.

In the first 5 months of 2013, canned tuna exports to Italy also dropped while shipment of fresh/live/frozen tuna (ex. cooked and frozen tuna loin) to the market edged up compared to that of the same period of 2012 with a growth of 349.9 percent. Exports of canned and processed tuna represented the largest proportion of the total export value of tuna products to the market.

Out of EU block, Germany continued to be the largest importer of Vietnam canned tuna with the proportion of 63 percent in the country’s total export value of this item in Jan-May 2013.

According to Globelfish’s report, at the end of May, the EU 2013 zero duty quota of 22.000 MT has been completely filled.
