(vasep.com.vn) In January - July, export value of frozen, fresh, live squid to French market increased nearly double-fold over that of the same period of last year. For the year to date, France – a single market in EU block - reported the highest growth in imports of Vietnam cephalopod.
Through July 2012, France gained the third rank in the list of the leading importers of Vietnam cephalopod due to decrease in the market share of Italy and Belgium. and Vietnam marine product exporters’ shift in export structure.
In January 2012, contrary to decline in Vietnam cephalopod exports to many European markets, exports to France witnessed an impressive growth. In the first two months of 2012, export value of this item to France rose over 1,000 percent against the same period of 2011 and in February alone, exports to the market marked a surprising advance of 16,700 percent from that of February 2011. Continuous growth in exports to the market was in turn recorded in each month: March with 254 percent, April with 88.4 percent, May with 21.3 percent and June with 82.7 percent. Till the end of July 2012, cephalopod export value to France recorded the strongest growth in EU block of 81 percent in which export value of frozen, fresh, live squid increased nearly double-fold over that of the same period of last year.
According to statistics, the price of squid and cuttlefish in 10 recent years has been soaring uninterruptedly. During 2005 - 2010, average import price of these species increased 2.2 mỗi percent per year. The growth in average import price in developing countries was slower with 0.8 percent per year. In 2012, average import price of squid and cuttlefish was EUR2.5 – 2.8 per kilogram. Developing countries and countries enjoying Generalize System of Preferences (GSP) enjoyed a zero rate of duty for exports to the market while the average rate of duty for importing squid into the market was 6 percent. Thus, Vietnam exporters of cephalopod remained good opportunities to export their products to the market in the upcoming time.
