Seafood exports in QI/2013 dropped for the first time in 4 years

(vasep.com.vn) In quarter I/2013, Vietnam seafood exports reached US$1.26 billion, down 4.8%. For the first time in 4 years, since 2009, exports of main products to major markets decreased in the first quarter of the year. It’s a consequence of continuous difficulties of importing markets, capital and material sourcing since 2012.

Shortage of raw shrimp caused by EMS, limited consumption in markets due to lower demand and barriers of duties and Ethoxyquin have negatively impacts to shrimp exports to main markets.

Economical crisis in EU, retailers trends of consumption for pangasius having ASC certificates and the unfavorable results of POR8 on Vietnamese pangasius announced by US DOC seriously affected to pangasius exports in QI/2013.
Demand for tuna and other marine fish started stand stilling after reaching sharp growths in 2011 and 2012, due to big supply in warehouse, leading to slower growth of exports in first 3 months of 2013.
Facing difficulties in big markets such as Japan, the US and EU, Vietnamese exporters actively shifted to smaller but potential ones like Mexico, Brazil and neighbour markets including China and ASEAN. Booms in exports to these markets partly offset sharp drop in seafood exports of Vietnam.
The trend is expected to continue in QII/2013 during world economic recess. Demand for seafood is forecasted to be modest higher due to delete stock in warehouses. Whether seafood exports from Vietnam will recover in QII/2013 in context of unstable raw material sourcing, lack of capital and market barriers?
The answer will be found in Report on Vietnam seafood exports in QI/2013 with comprehensive and concrete information and data on seafood production and exports of Vietnam in QI/2013 and forecast for results in QII/2013 based on analysis of current state, challenges and opportunities.
It’s pleasure to introduce the report to be published in May 20th 2013.
