The value of seafood exports in Q1 2013 totalled NOK 13.4 billion (EUR 1.8 billion), which is at the same level as in Q1 2012.
In March, the value of seafood exports totalled NOK 4.6 billion (EUR 617.5 million), representing a decrease of 4 per cent or NOK 190 million (EUR 25.5 million) compared to the same month last year, according to the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC).
The value of salmon exports in the 1st quarter of 2013 totalled NOK 8.2 billion (EUR 1.1 billion), which implies an increase of 22 per cent or NOK 1.5 billion (EUR 201.4 million) compared to the same period last year.
Exports of salmon in March were valued at NOK 3 billion (EUR 402.7 million), a figure which compared to March last year represents an increase of 12 per cent or NOK 312 million (EUR 41.9 million).
The average price for fresh whole salmon in March was NOK 37.65 (EUR 5.05) per kg, compared to NOK 28.34 (EUR 3.80) per kg in March last year. France and Poland were the biggest markets for salmon.
The value of exports of fjord trout in the 1st quarter of 2013 increased by 20 per cent or NOK 79 million (EUR 10.6 million) to a total of NOK 482 million (EUR 64.7 million).
The value of exports of fjord trout in March totalled NOK 144 million (EUR 19.3 million), down by 9 per cent or NOK 15 million (EUR 2 million) compared to the same month last year. The biggest markets for fjord trout are Russia and Japan.
The value of exports of herring in the 1st quarter of 2013 totalled NOK 812 million (EUR 109 million), representing a drop of 48 per cent or NOK 741 million (EUR 99.5 million) compared to the 1st quarter of 2012.
In March, the value of herring exports totalled NOK 186 million (EUR 25 million), a decline of 46 per cent or NOK 156 million (EUR 20.9 million) from March last year. Russia and Ukraine are the biggest markets for herring.
Mackerel exports in the 1st quarter of 2013 were valued at NOK 478 million (EUR 64.2 million), down by 39 per cent or NOK 302 million (EUR 40.5 million) from the 1st quarter last year.
In March, the value of herring exports from Norway totalled NOK 106 million (EUR 14.2 million), down by 25 per cent or NOK 36 million (EUR 4.8 million) compared to the same month last year. China and Russia are the most important mackerel markets.
Exports of clipfish in the 1st quarter of 2013 totalled NOK 745 million (EUR 100 million), a decline of 16 per cent or NOK 137 million (EUR 18.4 million) compared to the 1st quarter of 2012. The volume of exports was the same as last year.
In March, the value of clipfish exports totalled NOK 173 million (EUR 23.2 million), down by 20 per cent or NOK 44 million (EUR 5.9 million) from March last year.
Exports of salted fish in the 1st quarter totalled NOK 282 million (EUR 37.9 million). Compared to the 1st quarter of 2012, this is a reduction of 13 per cent or NOK 44 million (EUR 5.9 million). The volume of exports increased by 10 per cent or 1,000 tonnes to a total of 11,216 tonnes.
The value of exports of salted fish in March totalled NOK 136 million (EUR 18.3 million), down by 18 per cent or NOK 29 million (EUR 3.9 million) from March last year.
In the 1st quarter of 2013, exports of fresh cod including fillets were valued at NOK 490 million (EUR 65.8 million), which implies an increase of 21 per cent or NOK 85 million (EUR 11.4 million) compared to the same quarter last year. The volume of exports in the same period increased by no less than 63 per cent or 9,000 tonnes to a total of 23,000 tonnes.
In March, the value of exports of fresh cod including fillets totalled NOK 209 million (EUR 28.1 million). This is an increase of 31 per cent or NOK 49 million (EUR 6.6 million) compared to March 2012.
The value of exports of frozen cod including fillets in the 1st quarter of 2013 totalled NOK 419 million (EUR 56.2 million), representing a downturn of 11 per cent or NOK 54 million (EUR 7.2 million) compared to the 1st quarter of 2012.
Export volume in the same period showed growth of 17 per cent or 3,144 tonnes to a total of 22,000 tonnes. In March, the value of exports of frozen cod including fillets totalled NOK 123 million (EUR 16.5 million), a drop of 15 per cent or NOK 21 million (EUR 2.8 million) from March last year.
