The director of Phu Yen’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr.Bien Minh Tam, said the province has a fishing fleet of more than 800 boats, concentrating in Tuy Hoa city with more than 500 boats. Every year, local fishers catches around 4,000-4,500MT of oceanic tuna. From the beginning of the 2010 fishing season, local fishers have caught more than 2,800MT of oceanic tuna. Tam predicted this year output of oceanic tuna will reach 5,000MT.
Fishers at the locality are now enjoying a bumper harvest of tuna thanks to favorable weather conditions. Everyday, around 10 fishing boats come inshore with 30-40 tuna/per boat, weight more than 2MT, bringing them an income of VND150-200 million for each boat, and around VND10 million for a fisher.
