(vasep.com.vn) Phu Yen People’s Committee has approved a plan on reorganizing the provincial tuna fishing industry by 2015 and orrientation towards 2020.
By 2015, Phu Yen will requires all tuna distant fishing boats in the province to go catching in groups; 90 percent boats are registered and monitored by regulatory agencies during their fishing trip; 100 percent of boats receive updated weather forecasts on fish grounds; post-harvest losses are expected to be reduced to bellow 15 percent. In addition, the province plans to require traceability throughout the value chain production from fish ground to table.
One of the objectives is to reorganize fishing activities to boost cooperation among local fishing boats during distant trip and tighten links between fishermen and raw tuna transporters and purchasers at the sea for high quality of raw material.
The fishing groups are voluntarily applied for fishermen using the same kind of fishing gears, including ocean tuna long line fishing, line fishing with light use and trawler. It is also necessary to create close links between fishermen and tuna purchasers, processors in the value chain.
Phu Yen also undertakes the documentation of tuna fisheries to build data as the basis for its recommendations towards government policies on developing tuna fishing activites; strictly controls tuna line fishing with light use to ensure raw fish quality for processing.
