Opportunities to expand markets

(vasep.com.vn) The year 2015 is predicted to be a good year for tuna exports with benefits from free trade agreements.

New opportunities from EU, South America and ASEAN are to be seized. Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement is in the final stages of negotiation.

'As the Agreement is signed, Vietnamese business will have more opportunities to enter global markets. Seven leading tuna exporters signed a document to take part in the agreement so that exports of tuna and other seafood become easier.

In 2015, Sustainable Seafood Limited Company sets its goal export 1,200 MT of tuna, earning over US$ 12 million, up 20% in volume and 30% in value compared to 2014. Previously, the company mostly exported products to the US and Japan but now it only focuses on the US market. The US market, on the other hand, is a tough one as competition against Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia become fiecer.  The TPP Agreement brings the company potential partners.

Canada, South America and Mexico are considered as potential markets by the companies.

As opportunities are available, Vietnamese businesses need to create links with fishermen to improve tuna quality so that the industry can earn US$ 600 million in 2015 as targetted.
