Nha Trang to build a market for tuna auctions in Hon Ro port

(vasep.com.vn) In the second quarter of 2014, Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) will pour investment in building a new market for tuna auctions in the port of Hon Ro, in Nha Trang city, according to the Directorate of Fisheries.

The new market is expected to reduce the dependence of local fishermen on “black credit” and middle traders. MARD will focus investment in renewal of tuna fishing metal boats and boats purchasing fresh raw fish on sea, as well as undertake a pilot management of tuna exports by quota.

The investment project will be divided into two phases of 2014 – 2015 and 2016 – 2020 with a focus on the province of Khanh Hoa, which is considered as home to tuna fishing and processing activities.  Binh Dinh and Phu Yen are also beneficiaries of the project.
