Japan to build tuna processing plant in Binh Dinh

(vasep.com.vn) Japanese companies committed to build a processing plant for canned tuna in Binh Dinh, and support to improve the quality of tuna for direct export to Japan, promoting tuna brand for Binh Dinh - Vietnam in Japan.

According to Mr. Le Huu Loc, chairman of People's Committee of Binh Dinh provincial, who recently returned from a trip to Japan for trade promotion, said: “ We negociated and agreed with Hokugan (Japanese company) to build a processing plant in Binh Dinh”.

Accordingly, Hokugan will build its plant on an area of 5 hectares, to produce canned tuna.

In late August 2014, the company representative of Hokugan made a field trip to determine the location to build a factory in Binh Dinh. Under the plan, on 30th October, the company will join the authorities of Binh Dinh province to consider and decide on construction site, to do survey on the quality of caught tuna, and to evaluate raw materials to determine processing method.

Information for initial investment and capacity of the plant haven't been announced but Hokugan is committed to build an ice factory to provide free ice for vessels to improve the quality of tuna.

As a result from the trip of Binh Dinh provincial leaders, Japanese seafood enterprises committed to continuing to support fishermen to improve quality of tuna for direct export to Japan.

In November, Japanese fisheries experts are travelling to Binh Dinh to train and transfer technologies for catching and preserving tuna. Number of fishing lines will increase from 3 to 4, as requested by fishermen in Binh Dinh.

As quality weights much more than quantity, it is suggested that the existing trained teams should be accustomed to the technology before expanding the model to bigger scope.

There are now 2 enterprises in Binh Dinh joining this program with post havest activities and logistics.

According to Chairman of Binh Dinh Province, the promotion and commitments are to ensure that tuna will continue to be at the auction and seafood store chain of Kato Hitoshi General Office Co., Ltd. (Japan) – a partner of Bidifisco.
