Japan seafood imports plunge 20 percent in November

Japanese seafood imports, including fishmeal, fell 19.9 percent in November 2012 from the same period in 2011, to 230,229 tons.

The total value plunged 19.2 percent to JPY 127 billion ($1.5 billion/€1.1 billion). Mackerel and bonito showed the most significant falls, with 72 percent and 64.4 percent, respectively. Following those two species were yellowfin tuna at 29 percent, octopus at 24 percent, pollack surimi at 19.3 percent and salmon and trout at 15.6 percent.
