(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 10 months of 2017, Vietnam’s tuna exports to the EU reached US$115.5 million, accounting for 23.7% of the total export value and increasing by 31.4% over the same period in 2016.
Of that, exports to Germany and the Netherlands rose by 38.4% and 54.3%, respectively over the same period last year.
During the first ten months of this year, Vietnam’s tuna exports to the EU market recorded the good growth, except in Jan 2017, exports decreased by 8.4% over the same period last year. In Feb-Oct 2017, the export value increased from 11% to 111% over the same period of 2016.
Shipments of frozen tuna loins/fillets took the main share in Vietnam’s total tuna exports to the EU, followed by canned tuna. Notably, Vietnam's exports of fresh/live/frozen tuna are being boosted. Meanwhile, Vietnam’s exports of other processed tuna to the EU decreased compared with the same period.
According to the ITC statistics, in the first eight months of 2017, France, the UK and Portugal were top three largest tuna importers in the EU. Imports of processed tuna (HS code 160414); yellowfin tuna (HS code 030342) and frozen tuna fillets, skipjack tuna (HS code 030487) picked up the large proportion of total imports into the EU.
