(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On June 8, in Binh Dinh province, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam coordinated with Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee to organize a 5-year summation meeting to evaluate implementation a pilot project on fishing, collecting, processing and consumption ocean tuna value chain.
According to Directorate of Fisheries, in 3 provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa, there are more than 3,300 tuna fishing vessels; total catch in 2018 reached about 102,000 MT.
Currently, the three provinces mentioned above have 9 models of linking production and fishing of tuna value chain. Through this model, the quality and value of tuna products has been raised; awareness, skills, techniques of fishing and preserving tuna products of fishermen are increasingly improved, the price of tuna is also increasing and relatively stable.
Many delegates said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development needs to support localities in building ocean tuna brand. In addition, it is necessary to build specialized tuna port, tuna auction market, tuna logistics service facilities ... If tuna is sold with high prices, this will encourage fishermen to invest in post-harvest preservation and fishing technology.
