IATTC introduces catch quota of Pacific bluefin tuna
(fis.com) The Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC), at its annual meeting in La Jolla, USA from 25 to 29 June, introduced the management measures of Pacific bluefin tuna for the first time.
The total 10,000 tons covering for two years from 2012 and 2013 was set as its catch quota. IATTC also decided to extend the current management measures for yellowfin and bigeye for 2013 as well.
The current measures are: the entire closure of fishing for 62 days plus closure of fishing at the designated area for purse seine fishing; 5 per cent reduction of the catch amount of bigeye from the catch quota in 2007 for longline fishing.
