High growth in Vietnam shrimp exports to South Korea, Australia, Taiwan

(vasep.com.vn) Through June 2012, shrimp exports to South Korea reported a nearly 27 percent growth, to Australia up 62.5 percent, to Taiwan up 14.5 percent year-on year.

Although export value to these three markets was not as high as that to three main markets (Japan, the U.S., EU), since the early this year, the growth rate in exports to these three markets showed a stability with the figure up 3 – 170 percent year – on – year. This proved that these are potential markets of Vietnam shrimp. In February 2012, shrimp export value to South Korea rose by 106 percent, Australia up 173 percent and Taiwan up nearly 39 percent compared to the same period of 2011.

For the year to June, shrimp exports to South Korea (the fifth largest importer of Vietnam shrimp) reached over US$81.4 million while exports to the U.S. and EU (two main markets of Vietnam shrimp) fell drastically, particularly to EU fell by 24.6 percent from that of 2011 and reached US$140 million.
