Growth in bilvave mollusk exports to Japan

(vasep.com.vn) Through April 15th, 2013, Vietnamese bivalve mollusk exports to Japan achieved better results than the corresponding period of last year. Sales to Japan reached growth of 22.2 – 161.6 percent. It only fell down nearly 32 percent in February.

According to Japanese Customs, in the first quarter of 2013, Japan imported US$4.9 million of clam products (HS 030779), down 17.5 percent, mainly from Canada, China, South Korea, and Indonesia. Though Vietnamese bivalve mollusk products were increasingly sent to Japan, they just accounted for 5 percent of Japan’s import value.

In the second quarter of 2013, Japan is predicted to buy more clam and scallop from outside. Vietnamese bivalve mollusk has higher price then products of the same type from China. It is highly valued by Japanese customers thanks to good flavour and quality.
