The future sustainability of the global tuna industry will be at the core of this year’s INFOFISH-TUNA 2014 Conference, the largest gathering of tuna industry players from all over the world. Preparations for the event, which is to be held from 21-23 May in Bangkok, are well underway. “Working together towards a sustainable industry” is the central theme.
The heart of discussions at the three day conference will focus on sustainability issues and how stakeholders can join together to achieve a brighter future.
Currently, the industry is experiencing a very dramatic price fall for skipjack and an albacore crisis. Around 30 speakers, ranging from industry leaders to heads of international and regional organizations, and from eco-label certifiers to NGO’s make up the agenda of presentations that will be split into four sessions. The latest developments of supply, stocks, management, initiatives for sustainability, markets and eco-labelling make up the conference program.
Organizers of the event have announced that Mr. Renato Curto, CEO of Tri Marine, has been appointed as the Chairman of the 13th edition of the meeting. His vast experience in the tuna business is expected to provide strong leadership during conference deliberations.
Attendance of the three-day gathering is predicted to reach around 600 delegates from over 60 countries. Early bird registration for a discounted fee is still open until March 24. Atuna.com is one of the co-organizers of the event.
