Fishery and aquaculture product landings accumulated to November 2012 totalled 3.3 million tonnes, 10.3 per cent less than in the first 11 months of 2011, when 3.7 million tonnes were landed.
According to the latest Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector Research of the Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca), the extractive fisheries sector contributed 2.4 million tonnes between January and November 2012, while aquaculture harvests reached about 900,000 tonnes. About 86.7 per cent of the extractive sector landings consisted of pelagic resources.
Landings of anchovy, sardine and horse mackerel respectively accounted for 41.3 per cent, 38.4 per cent and 10.9 per cent of the extractive sector accumulated landings until November 2012.
These landings were concentrated in regions V and X, which together received 1.1 million tonnes, or 52.8 per cent of the total.
Further back were XV to II regions, which totalled 761,000 tonne (37.2 per cent) landings, and regions III and IV, which accounted for 3.1 per cent of the landings, represented by 62,700 tonnes.
Regarding catches of demersal fisheries, 2012 18,600 tonnes of southern hake were landed to November, 8.3 per cent more than in the same period of 2011 (17,190 tonnes).
The main contribution came from the industrial fleet, with 12,100 tonnes, while artisanal vessels landed 6,500 tonnes.
Subpesca also reported that the landing of common hake accumulated to November last year totalled 34,250 tonnes, representing a decrease of 16.9 per cent over the same period in 2011 (41,190 tonnes).
The landing of Patagonian toothfish was of 1,545 tonnes to November 2012, 14.7 per cent more than in the first 11 months of 2011 (1,350 tonnes).
Between January and November 2012 also 1,200 tonnes of golden kingklip were landed, against 1,380 tonnes in the same period last year, that is to say, 12.8 per cent less.
Meanwhile, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) reported that aquaculture harvests totalled in the first 10 months of last year 868,600 tonnes. This represents an increase of 14.8 per cent compared to the same period in 2011, when 756,920 tonnes were harvested.
The main resources domestically produced were Atlantic salmon, mussels and rainbow trout, which accounted respectively for 38 per cent, 25.5 per cent and 24.8 per cent of the total harvest. Regions X and XI generated the greatest part: a total of 488,400 tonnes and 340,500 tonnes, respectively.
Atlantic salmon harvests totalled 329,730 tonnes, 55.4 per cent more than the cumulative volume between January and October 2011 (212,184 tonnes). Most of the production was from Regions XI (211,600 tonnes) and X (92,100 tonnes).
The harvests of mussels accumulated to October 2012 totalled 221,300 tonnes, 16.3 per cent down on the same period in 2011 (264,335 tonnes). The 100 per cent of the harvest came from Region X.
Meanwhile, rainbow trout harvests totalled 215,080 tonnes, 16.5 per cent more than the cumulative volume between January and October 2011 (184,583 tonnes). Most of the production was from Regions X (109,400 tonnes) and XI (98,800 tonnes).
