The European Commission wants to see the EU producer price for tuna processing increase by at least 2% next year.
It tabled its 2013 guide prices for fisheries products this week and the proposed price for yellowfin tuna intended for the processing industry is minimum EUR 1248 per ton, 2% higher than 2012’s price of EUR 1224 per ton.
The Commission has not changed its prices for fresh albacore tuna, both whole and gutted with head, from last year. The costs of both products remain the same for 2013, at EUR 2343 per ton and EUR 2388 per ton respectively.
The suggested prices are based on Member States’ average market prices over the past three years. Other factors that were considered include trends of production and market demand, consumer interests and the need to avoid withdrawals of fisheries products from the market.
