Ecuador traditional exports of tuna dropped over the first month of this year. The rate fell by 8.8% over the same month last year.
The Ecuadorian Central Bank said that the cause of the decline is the drop in foreign dollars sale, not volume. The recorded revenues were at USD 27.6 million, while in January 2012, the figure was USD 30.3 million. The volume remained unchanged. The main destinations were Europe, United States, Europe and the Andean countries.
Tuna was the only segment of traditional exports which showed negative results, other sectors all went up in value.
