(vasep.com.vn) Through the middle of December 2012, crab & swimming crab and other crustaceans exports witnessed the second largest growth after tuna among Vietnam’s seafood exports.
Since 2010, the world demand for crab & swimming crab has been increasing sharply. According to Vietnam Customs, in 2010, crab & swimming crab export value of the country were doubled from 2009. In 2011, export value of these items reduced slightly 0.9 percent; however, from the early 2012 to December 15th, export value generated US$110.7 million, up 13.8 percent from the same period of 2011.
In nine consecutive months of 2012, export value of these items rose in which exports in June recorded the strongest growth of 49 percent.Until December 15th2012, Vietnam’s crab & swimming crab and other crustaceans shipment to many markets posted positive growth.
However, export value to EU dropped remarkably from the same period of 2011 due to shortage of domestic raw material. Although domestic processors sought to purchase raw material from many localities, the supply of raw material for processing was insufficient to meet consumers’ orders in the world. The situation was expected to continue in the early 2013.
