Crab exports to the U.S. to climb up

(vasep.com.vn) In 2012, Vietnam crab exports to the U.S. accounted for 50 percent of Vietnam’s total exports of these items. The U.S. continued to affirm its top rank among the largest importing markets.

Crab exports to the U.S. in 2012 reported positive growth of 11.7 percent over that of 2011 (US$53.3 million). In which canned crab exports prevailed with the proportion of 70 percent out of the total. Other processed products made up 21.7 percent and frozen, fresh, live crab made up 9.5 percent.

News of economic stimulus by the U.S goverment in the late 2012 is expected to strengthen price and purchasing power of goods imported into the U.S. This is also a big opportunity for Vietnam seafood exporters.

However, more and more trade barriers imposed by the U.S. market will create more obstacles for Vietnam seafood exporters to the market.
