(seafood.com) Despite growth in export volumes, the Chilean fishmeal industry has reported a decline in export values through July 2012 due to falling prices.
Through the first seven months of 2012, export volumes totaled 193,008 tonnes, up 8 percent from the same time a year ago. However, values dropped nearly 10% from US$279.9 million in 2011 to US$251.2 million in 2012.
Furthermore, the average per kg price of fishmeal dropped 17% year-over-year from US$1.57 to US$1.30.
Pacific Star Camanchaca and Corpesca led the industry with 99,690 tons in exports worth US$123.7 million, representing 51.7% share of volumes and 49.3% of values.
