After EVFTA took effect, Vietnamese tuna exports jumped

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On August 1, 2020, the Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Vietnam (EVFTA) was officially implemented. Besides, Vietnamese tuna industry recorded a growth in exports to the EU. Along with the EU's gradual control of the Covid-19 epidemic, the effect of EVFTA has had a positive impact on Vietnam's tuna exports.

According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, since the EVFTA was officially implemented in early August 2020, there have been many positive signs in export activities to the European market. In the first half of August 2020 alone, Vietnam's tuna exports to the EU rose by 11% over the same period in July, and increased by 65% over the same period in 2019, reaching nearly $ 6.3 million.

The number of orders in this period mainly focused on frozen tuna meat with HS code 030487, frozen steamed tuna meat HS16041490, canned tuna in oil/canned in sauce HS16041419 ... These products will be enjoyed full tax exemption/quota tax exemption as soon as the agreement comes into effect.

With the remarkable growth in markets in the last two months, it can be seen that the preferential tariff treatment from the EVFTA Agreement is creating an attraction for Vietnamese tuna products.
