2013: Pangasius production down, its price up
(vasep.com.vn) Vietnam pangasius industry will stop boosting production and farming areas in 2013, according to Vu Van Tam – Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry at the conference on pangasius production and consumption in Mekong Delta to wrap up the industry’s activities in 2012 and undertake new plans for 2013.
Vietnam plans to produce 1 million MT of raw pangasius on 6,000 hectares of fish farming areas. The country adjusts the nationwide production scale through global demand for the fish. The country also needs to push up the price of raw material compared to 2012.
In 2013, pangasius industry aims to handle persistent problems and enhance efficient and sustainable development through four groups of solutions: (1) Restructuring pangasius production and export to increase export value; (2) Setting up conditions for exporters along with strict control of product quality in order to satisfy requirements from consumer markets, strengthening Vietnam pangasius brand and trade promotions; (3) Completing legal and policy framework including the governement’s Decree on pangasius production and export management; (4) Intensifying the state management and role of relevant associations and organizations in the development of pangasius sector.
