In April, Vietnam exported pangasius products for USD 146.3 million, up 1.8 per cent over the same period of 2012. Meanwhile, in January–April 2013, pangasius exports brought in USD 534.8 million, down 6 per cent year-on-year.
The United States was the largest importer in April with purchases for USD 40.6 million, up 31.3 per cent and representing 27.8 per cent of sales that month. But in January-April, it was in second place, after the EU, with imports for USD 113 million, taking up 21.2 per cent of the market.
The European Union (EU) was the second largest importer in April, with purchases for USD 30.6 million, equivalent to a 20.9 per cent participation of the total and representing a 22.4 per cent decrease compared to the previous year. From January to April, the EU imported Vietnamese pangasius for USD 126 million, a figure that turned the European bloc into the largest market (23.6 per cent) although it imported 17.1 per cent less than in the same period of 2012.
The countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) imported Vietnamese pangasius for USD 11.1 million in April (7.6 per cent of the total value), representing a 35.5 per cent more than in the same month in 2012. In January-April, this bloc imported products for USD 40.8 million (7.6 per cent), further 14.6 per cent year-on-year.
Mexico followed with tra products for USD 7 million worth in April (4.9 per cent of the total values of Vietnamese exports), up 93.7 per cent compared to the previous year. In January-April, it imported products for USD 33.2 million, (6.2 per cent of the market), down 13 per cent.
Brazil imported pangasius for USD 8.2 million (5.7 per cent of sales) in April, up 91.6 per cent comparing to last year. In January-April, the country imported products for USD 33 million (6 per cent of sales), up 58 per cent year on year.
China and Hong Kong imposts were next with USD 6 million in April (4.2 per cent of sales), up 11 per cent year-on-year. In January-April, they imported products for USD 24 million (4.4 per cent of the market), up 4.4 per cent year-on-year.
In January-April, Vinh Hoan Corp exported USD 56 million worth of pangasius products, followed by Agifish with USD 32 million and Hung Vuong Corp with USD 29 million. In fourth place was Navico with USD 23.6 million, followed by Anvifish with USD 21 million and IDI Corp with USD 20 million.
In seventh place was Dathaco with USD 14.3 million, with CL-Fish Corp in eighth place with USD 14.2 million and Caseamex in ninth with USD 13.7 million. HTFood took the tenth spot with USD 12.6 million in exports.
