Vina Cleanfood: More cooked shrimp sent to the EU
(vasep.com.vn) Through April 2014, Vietnam Clean Seafood Corporation (Vina Cleanfood) exported 1,600 MT of finished shrimp products, mainly value-added items. The export value was more than US$20 million, up 20 percent year on year.
In the first months of the years, Vina Cleanfood exported more shrimp to the EU while sales to the U.S. and Japan were on the downtrend, according to Vo Van Phuc – the company's General Director. Currently, European importers are turning to buy cooked shrimp from Vietnam to enjoy the lower selling price than that of the same products from Thailand. Thai cooked shrimp is imposed the higher import tax in the EU.
Consumption of shrimp in the U.S. market has been slowing down, as inventory remained high. However, U.S. consumption is predicted to increase in June and July.
