Finally, giant freshwater prawn broodstock from Vietnam was selected due to its strong health and higher survival rate after reproducing. This giant freshwater prawn broodstock is hybridized from three different prawn broodstocks of Vietnam.

After a three-year research, Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) concluded that giant freshwater prawn broodstock from Vietnam is the most suitable with Fiji cultural and environmental conditions.

In an interview with Australia Radio, Mr. Mather said that ACIAR transferred more than 15,000 fingerlings for Fiji Ministry of Fisheries and Forests to produce seed for farming on the large scale.

Fiji Government is promoting freshwater aquaculture sector by supply farming lakes for workers in sugar-cane sector of the country.
