(vasep.com.vn) Shrimp crop this year in the Mekong Delta reap high yield. For the first time, whiteleg exports surpassed black tiger shrimp.
In provinces of Long An, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, whiteleg shrimp production so far rose by 30-50 percent year-on-year. The output of this species produced by Soc Trang province showed three-fold growth to reach 35,000 MT.
Whiteleg shrimp also reported sharp increase in export turnover. Through September 2013, whiteleg shrimp exports brought back US$979 million, jumping across US$943 million of black tiger shrimp sales.
In Soc Trang province, whiteleg shrimp farming area in the next crop may increase by 50 percent from 15,000 hectares reported in 2013.
Whiteleg shrimp farming area nationwide may post a surprising increase in 2014. This leads to hardship in controling diseases and finding importing markets. Farmers are called for following farming schedules to prevent diseases.
