Van Ninh (Khanh Hoa): Bumper crop of vannamei farming on sand

(vasep.com.vn) At current, farmers in Van Ninh district of Khanh Hoa province are on-season of whiteleg shrimp farmed on sand with average productivity of 30 MT per hectare. This year, bumper crop with high shrimp price brought large profit to local shrimp farmers.

In Van Tho commune of Van Ninh district, shrimp count 100 pieces per kilogram is quoted at VND120,000 per kilogram. Local farmers can earn the profit of VND1.8 – 2 billion per hectare.

To breed successfully whiteleg shrimp on sand, farmers must invest in renovating farming ponds, buying canvas to cover the pond’s bottom, control water environment. Besides, they also focus on selecting and stocking shrimp seed, feeding and controlling shrimp in farming process and preventing diseases.

With high productivity, sand-based shrimp farming model will be expand throughout the province.
