US ranks first in importing VN’s seafood in Jan

The US maintains its status as the largest importer of Viet Nam’s seafood in the first month of 2013, according to the Seafood Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

In January, the total export turnover of seafood reached around US$376 million, up 3.5% against the same period in 2012.

The seafood export turnover to the US in January accounted for 19.15%, followed by Japan (17.81%) and the Republic of Korea (8.36%).

Viet Nam expects to raise the seafood export turnover to US$6.4 billion in 2013.

To achieve the goal, the MARD asked the aquaculture sector to give priority to main exports, such as shrimps, pangasius and tuna. Besides, trade promotion activities, market forecast and advertisement will be enhanced to introduce Vietnamese products to overseas.
