(vasep.com.vn) In 2013 shrimp crop, 3,673 households in 4 districts of Tra Vinh province stocked over 1 billion of whiteleg shrimp seed on the area of 1,784 hectares.
They harvested 10,500 MT of commercial shrimp for 2013 crop, equaling to 201 percent of yearly plan and increasing by 9,662 MT from that of last year.
This year, the price of raw shrimp was VND20,000 – 50,000 per kilogram higher over last year. The price of whiteleg shrimp count 40-50 pieces per kilogram was at VND135,000 – 150,000 per kilogram. Shrimp with size of 70-80 pcs/kg was priced at VND135,000 – 150,000.
In 2013, the province shifted black tiger shrimp farming areas under intensive and semi-intensive models to whiteleg shrimp farming due to the outbreak of White Spot and AHPNS in black tiger shrimp in 2012.
At the beginning of 2013 shrimp crop, 827 households who stocked 214 whiteleg shrimp seed were hit by unfavorable weather and epidemic. Thanks to appropriate solutions applied by competent authorities, local farmers prevented diseases as well as enjoyed a bumper harvest.
