(vasep.com.vn) In the first 5 months of 2014, aquaculture production in Tra Vinh province reached over 28,038 MT, up nearly 39 percent year on year in which shrimp output hit nearly 8,000 MT.
The significant rise in the locality’s aquaculture output was attributable to that the province diversified aquatic species for farming, expanded farming area under intensive, semi-intensive and innovated extensive farming models in freshwater, saltwater and brackishwater areas.
In 2014 shrimp crop; 34,500 households located in 4 distrists of Duyen Hai, Cau Ngang, Tra Cu and Chau Thanh stocked over 3 billion shrimp seed on the coastal area of nearly 38,000 hectares.
In 2014 shrimp crop, Cau Ngang district has strengthened to apply advanced techniques in farming, invest in infrastructure, improve water environment, develop local aquaculture sector towards sustainability. Besides, local authorities recommend farmers to farm shrimp under intensive and semi-intensive models, expand the farming area of giant freshwater prawn co-cultivated with rice or black tiger shrimp. Through April 2014; 5,839 households in the district stocked over 1.2 billion of whiteleg shrimp and black tiger shrimp seed on the area of 2,967.9 hectares in which whiteleg shrimp area accounted for 70.62 percent.
