Tra Vinh owns 60,130 ha of water surface area for the aquaculture

Tra Vinh is a coastal province in Mekong Delta with 65 km of coastal line and situated between 2 big rivers (Hau river and Co Chien river). In the past years, the aquaculture in Tra Vinh has grown strongly. At present, the total aquaculture area of the province is 60,130 ha, up 35,944 ha compared to 10 years ago (2001). In which, area for fresh water seafood raising is 19,500 ha, area for sea and brackish water seafood is 40,600 ha including 25,000 ha for black tiger shrimp and 12,000 ha for crab…

Currently, Tra Vinh’s seafood output reaches 157,260 tons, up 63,134 tons over 2001; in which,  output of marine exploitation and interior field exploitation is 66,500 tons, output of aquaculture is 90,760 tons.

In past time, Tra Vinh’s aquaculture has developed strongly in fresh, sea and brackish waters. Besides, farmer’s production qualification has been enhanced. Many models of raising black tiger shrimp, scampi, and pangasius for export under industrial and semi-industrial forms have archieved good result. Especially, movement of black tiger shrimp raising on floating ponds has gradually expanded. Simultaneously, other species such as clam, crab, blood cockle also have been developed drastically and brought profits to farmers.
