(vasep.com.vn) Since the late November 2013, raw shrimp price in Soc Trang province, the largest industrial shrimp farming area in Ca Mau peninsula, has soared robustly.
The price of shrimp count 100 pieces per kilogram is over VND120,000 per kilogram; shrimp sized 50 pcs per kilogram is priced at VND190,000 per kilogram.
Current time is nearly in the end of harvest which leads to the rise in shrimp price. High price encourages local farmers to continue stocking and expand cultivation area of 140 hectares.
Rice-shrimp farming model was applied effectively in My Xuyen district of Soc Trang. The rice-shrimp farming area of the district amounted to 10,000 hectares. The district has 1,000 hectares of vannamei farming to meet demand of processors.
Besides, shirmp exporters in the province are in the trend of investing to shirmp farms to make sure their raw supply. Saota Foods Joint Stock Company (Fimex VN) invested in 100 hectares of shrimp farming. In 2013 crop, the company harvested 700 MT of shrimp with the productivity of 15 MT per hectare.
With high demand from importers and price, shrimp farming will fetch high profit for farmers in the Mekong Delta.
