(vasep.com.vn) Since mid October 2013, farmers in Soc Trang province has seen soaring price of black tiger shrimp and whiteleg shrimp.
Whiteleg shrimp sized 50 pieces per kilogram was priced at VND185,000 – 190,000 per kilogram; shrimp with size of 60 pcs per kilogram was priced VND175,000 and VND135,000 per kilogram for size of 100 pcs.
Black tiger shrimp count 20 pcs per kilogram with low supply was priced VND270,000 per kilogram; VND230,000 – 235,000 for shrimp sized 30 pcs per kilogram and VDN190,000 & VND160,000 for 40 and 50 pcs respectively.
Current time is in the end of harvest, while higher demand of raw shrimp for local processors is leading to the rise in shrimp price.
In this shrimp crop, farmers in Soc Trang province harvested 35,000 hectares on the stocking area of 42,000 hectares. The farming area of brackishwater shrimp next year may be expanded, in which stocking area of whiteleg shrimp may exceed 20,000 hectares from 15,000 hectares of this year. Accordingly, local shrimp output in 2014 may increase to 100,000 MT from estimated output of 68,000 MT in 2013.
