Soc Trang: High production of brackishwater shrimp
(vasep.com.vn) In 2013, Soc Trang province has produced 72,762 MT of brackishwater shrimp, up 79.6 percent against the previous year.
The production of brackishwater shrimp has been recovering as the result of new technologies and favorable weather during farming seasons. Higher price for commercial shrimp was also another reason.
In 2013, this kind of shrimp brought back VND4,000 billion for farmers in Soc Trang. Earnings from seafood exports of the province also increased by 25 percent.
Soc Trang authorities have been calling local farmers for an environmental and sustainable production with high profit instead of only focusing on the volume.
