Soc Trang: Codes shrimp farming area and build brand for shrimp farming zone

There are now around 50 000 households

So far, the province has completed the list of households in 22 out of total of 34 communes that farming black tiger shrimp at the locality. This is starting stage to enhance effectiveness of aquaculture management in ensuring farmed shrimp traceability by coding farming area and farming units in compliance with GAP standards (Good Aquaculture Practice), and assuring product quality to meet high demand set by importing markets.

Soc Trang Agriculture Sector also supports Shrimp Farming Association in My Thanh district to implement the Project “Standardization of input elements, farming process and brand for Soc Trang shrimp sector” with an aim to increase earnings for all stakeholders in the seafood production and processing chain by producing high grade, environmentally-friendly products that meet high requirements of both domestic and foreign customers.

The project will be implemented in three years, from 2010 to 2012.
