Soc Trang: 40% of the shrimp farming area was affected by diseases
(vasep.com.vn) According to Aquaculture Department in Soc Trang, due to diseases on shrimp, there is a 40% loss in brackish water. Black tiger shrimp loss covers 6,475 hectares, accounting for 32.4% and white leg shrimp loss covers 13,471 hectares, accounting for 45% of total farming area.
My Xuyen and Vinh Chau suffers the most. This exceeds the damage in 2013 (over 30%) of the total area but lower than the peak of 2011 when it was over 70%.
Currently, Soc Trang province has more than 49,917 hectares of shrimp farming with 13,572 million breedings, including 29,934.8 hectares for white leg shrimp and 19,982.4 hectares for black tiger shrimp, 1.16 times as much as in 2013.
