Shrimp farming area narrowed

(vasep.com.vn) Source from Quang Nam Department of Agriculture and Rural Development unveiled that there has been in 60 hectares of abandoned shrimp farms in Nui Thanh and Thang Binh districts. The main reason is lowered price amid production costs rose.

In 2012, raw shrimp  prices ranged from VND 130,000 to VND 150,000/kg. High price of shrimp encouraged farmers to rear the species.  This year, price turned out to be low, causing farmers to lose profits.

People's Committee of Quang Nam has come up with specific plans towards sustainable shrimp farming, focusing on intensive farming to increase quality of products. The province will also call for investments in hatcheries to lower costs for farmers.
