Shrimp demand is quiet for an adequate supply in the U.S

Demand is quiet for an adequate supply. Discounting is becoming more prevalent in order to stimulate buying interest, especially on white shrimp.

36-40 count and larger Latin American white shrimp continue barely steady to weak. Under 15 and 16-20 count Asian white shrimp are mostly steady, although a few lower offerings were collected. Smaller count shrimp are barely steady to weak as are easy peel shrimp.

13-15 count P&D tail-on white shrimp continue full steady. The balance of the peeled white shrimp market is barely steady to weak with some lower offerings noted.

Black tiger shrimp are generally steady at listed levels with large count shrimp tight and subject to premiums.

Gulf Domestic Shrimp: There continues to be little change in headless shrimp, however some higher offerings have been noted from certain sellers where inventories are thin. The focus continues to be in PUD’s and P&D’s where depleting supplies; and limited and higher replacement is providing underlying strength. The NMFS has released its first landings report for the 2014 Gulf season. It shows January 2014 landings of 3.06 million lbs. (headless weight) compared to 3.92 million in January 2013.
