Seanamico to reach US$20 million of shrimp export in 2012
(vasep.com.vn) Between January and October 2012, Nam Can Seaproducts Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Seanamico) brought back US$17.7 million from export of shrimp in all products and varieties.
Japan remained the key market and accounted for 50 percent of the company’s total revenue. The EU was also one of the leading importers of Seanamico, but shipment of shrimp products to this region was plunging due to economic downturn. This led to a decline in shrimp sales compared to the same period of 2011.
Currently, Japan import of shrimp from Thailand has trend to increase after this market tightened control of shrimp from Vietnam and India for Ethoxyquin residues. At the same time, the weak euro also weakened shrimp consumption in some European markets, pushing prices to lower levels. EU import of this species from other supplying countries also saw drop because of low demand.
