According to a notice on the Russian government web site, Russian authorities have changed the glaze requirement for imported shrimp. The original requirement was for shrimp glaze not to exceed 6%. This was met with widespread opposition from industrial producers, who said it was not feasible to produce shrimp with so little glaze.
On April 8, Moscow revised the requirements to 7% for crustaceans, (shrimp, crab, lobster) and 8% for other shellfish.
"Introduction 7% standard would prevent the supply of poor quality of fishery products by unscrupulous businessmen and will protect the rights of consumers, and contribute to the protection of the consumer market, according to Rospotrebnadzor.
