Retailer giants advocate Vietnam shrimp producers

(vasep.com.vn) Vietnam small-scale shrimp producers’ community received special support from leading retailers and food suppliers, namely Walmart, Sam's Club, BJ's Wholesale Club (USA), Morrisons , Direct Seafoods (UK), Delhaize (Belgium), and Davigel (France).

Representatives of these retailers shared their willing cooperate with small-scale shrimp producers from Vietnam to the site infrafish.com,.

Huw Thomas, Director of Morrisons, believes that the idea to setting up a several group certifications will be an important approach to allow uncertified households to join the community and bring them opportunities to export their products. “What partners need is the exact purchase point”, said Mr. Scott Williams from BJ's Wholesale Club.  

Reportedly, Ca Mau is planning to establish 20,000 hectare for organic shrimp farming in 2020. The only challenge, however, is that number of contacts in foreign market limited.
