National Fisheries Quality Assurance and Veterinary Directorate (NAFIQAVED) and Russian Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service (VPSS) are in process of completing the cooperative document to be signed within this August in order to facilitate seafood exports from Vietnam to Russia.
Russia decided to resume import of seafood products from 11 Vietnamese businesses as of August 7 after a suspension due to food safety concerns. The decision was made after an inspection visit of VPSS delegation to a pangasius farming area and 19 seafood processing establishments in Vietnam from July 8-18. In recent years, Russia has been a major market for seafood exports from Vietnam, ranked the fifth after EU, US, Japan, and South Korea.
The factor has promoted seafood export from Soc Trang province, which fetch US$ 41.625 million in August, an increase of 14.21% over last month and 5.23% over the same period last year. In first 8 months, export values reached US$205.818 million. There are 9 seafood exporters, of which 3 enterprises has export growth over the same period: Stapimex up 3.32%; FIMEX VN: 10.09% and Phuong Nam Co., Ltd 39.65%.
