Ninh Binh: VietGAP whiteleg shrimp model to be multiplied

(vasep.com.vn) Leaders of the Food Safety Institute (representing VinaCert-Control JSC) along with Director of Fisheries Technology and Services Center of Vietnam awarded VietGAP certification for Tan Van, a whiteleg shrimp aquaculture private company in Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province.

In recent years, along with climate change, aquaculture has faced many challenges. VietGAP was enacted to provide sustainable development and systematic control for aquaculture.

Tan Van applied VietGAP in its 2.2 hectare farming area. According to Mr. Dang Thanh Tam, business owner, with expert advices on VietGAP, the company has its standard chain process, from building farms, choosing feed and breeds, writing journals to harvesting. “Thanks to VietGAP, the company ensures product qualities and quantity while significantly reducing costs.” said Mr. Tam.

Annual harvest of the company was approximately 35 MT, earning the profit of VND 1.5-2 billion, much higher than with traditional shrimp farming method.

This model, according to Fisheries Technology and Services Center of Vietnam, will be replicated in neighboring areas. Technical staff of the center will help farmers with VietGAP training courses.
