(vasep.com.vn) In 2011, Minh Phu Seafood Corporation (Minh Phu Seafood Corp) shipped abroad 30.5 thousand MT of finished shrimp products for nearly US$335 million and accounted for 15.56 percent of Vietnam’s total revenue from shrimp export. Its affiliate, Minh Phu Hau Giang Seafood Seed Processing Co., Ltd, which run in line since July 2011, has processed about 4,500 thousand MT of finished products with 3,500 labours.
Also in 2011, Minh Phu Seafood Corp produced 3,000 MT of commercial shrimp to satisfy 10 percent of its raw material need for processing. In which, 85 MT were harvested from some ponds in Loc An shrimp farming area. Minh Phu’s hatchery in Ninh Thuan province supplied 1.4 billion of shrimp post-larvae to its owned farms and other outside farms.
By 2015, Minh Phu Seafood Corp targets to reach US$1 billion of total export revenue. Therefore, it has invested much in developing shrimp farms, increasing processing capacity, looking to new markets and expanding its share in traditional markets.
According to Le Van Diep, Vice General Director of Minh Phu Seafood Corp, in the first three months of 2012, the company has exported nearly 6,000 MT of shrimp products, bringing US$72.2 million. The U.S. was the most important partner with a proportion of 34 percent in total export value, followed by Japan, South Korea, Canada and the EU.
