“We are all surprised when shrimp has grown up so fast with high survival rate. Whiteleg shrimp reached the amount of 60 pieces per kilogram just after 75 days of rearing with the productivity of 9 MT per hectare. This harvest, Minh Loc – An Phu Co. totaled 170 MT of shrimp, gaining VND18 billion of turnover and VND7 billion of profit. We could keep profitable business if the weather is favourable for farming,” said Nguyen Chi Thuc, the company’s Executive Director.
In early 2011, Minh Loc – An Phu Co. tendered for project on Loc An industrial shrimp farming area in Dat Do district that cost VND60 billion. Then, it invested VND150 billion in upgrading 250 hectares of shrimp ponds and building water and electricity systems. In late of 2011, it stocked first whiteleg shrimp on ponds of 24 hectares with density of 100 seeds per square meter.
Currently, Minh Loc – An Phu has a staff of 25 qualified and experienced experts and trained workers. Its farm is applying strict standards set by the company in shrimp farming. Shrimp seeds come from Minh Phu Seafood Corp’s hatchery in Ninh Thuan province and had to pass Polymerase Chain Reaction testing (PCR) before being stocked.
After the harvest, raw shrimp was processed in Minh Phu – Hau Giang processing plant for export to the U.S., Japan and some EU countries. According to Mr. Thuc, Minh Loc – An Phu Co. plans to stock its 2nd shrimp harvest on total of 250 hectares of water surface at the end of the first quarter of 2012.
