Among shrimp importers of MPC, the U.S. still kept the first position with the import volume of 5,600 MT, worth US$79.2 million. Japan ranked the second with 2,800 MT and US$34.3 million, followed by the EU (US$25.5 million), South Korea (US$22.6 million) and Canada (US$16.2 million).
MPC tries to remain shrimp export volume and balance product structure between black tiger shrimp and whiteleg shrimp. According to Le Van Quang, Chairman of MPC, the company is operating its shrimp farms in Vung Tau and Kien Giang provinces with the total area of 1,000 hectares in order to assure raw material for processing. MPC is now working with the local electricity agency to ensure stable supply for shrimp farms. As a result, MPC could increase its export volume in 2011.
According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, MPC is the biggest seafood exporter in Vietnam and it still assures continuous export growth in first eight months of the year.
